Howard County Maryland Real Estate

Howard County, Maryland, is where Baltimore meets Washington, D.C. The county's northern portion are composed of Baltimore's suburbs; the southern portion of the county is closer to Washington. Howard County is then, naturally, a part of the Washington-Baltimore Metropolitan Area. This is the fourth largest metropolitan area, after New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Howard County was named after John Eager Howard, an officer in the Revolutionary War and Governor of Maryland. Howard District was formed in 1838 from part of Anne Arundel County. In 1851 it became an official county. What later became Howard County was home to Charles Carroll III. Carroll wrote numerous articles denouncing the stamp act. He was a delegate of the Second Continental Congress and was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence.

Howard County has no incorporated towns, under Maryland state law. An incorporated town is one with its own central government. The county has a population of just over a quarter of a million people. Due to its location directly between Baltimore and Washington, Howard County is home to people working in either community. Because of the proximity of the federal government, this region is less likely to feel the effects of a recession.
